In most maps the city is called Bangkok.The Thai people themselves call it by another : Krungthep which may be loosely translated as City of Gods, or City of Angels.
Established in 1782 by The First King of the present Chakri dynasty, Bangkok is a national treasure house and Thailand's spiritual, cultural, political, commercial, education, and diplomatic center.
Thais are courteous, friendly, thoroughly charming people and they certainly do smile. Therefore its reputation for being the land of smile is richly deserved.

Bangkok, truly one of the world's most exciting cities, is an amazingly complex blend of ancient and modern. Out wardly a 20th century city, with fantic life and jamed. Bangkok nevertheless retains much of its original calm, in the palaces, temples and gardens which are unchanged from the older times.
