Topography
Located approximately 568 kms. south of Bangkok.Because it is Thailand's rainiest province, and also its narrowest. The Kra Isthmus, the narrowest part of Malayan Peninsula is located here. Ranong is a long-narrow plot of land extending 169 kms. from north to south, and only 9 kms. at its narrowest. Most of the province is rainforested mountains.

Area
Ranong covers an area of 3,298 square kilometers and divided into 4 Amphoes and 1 King Amphole: Muang, Kra Buri, Kapoe, La-un, and King Amphoe Suk Samran. Travelling by Highways No. 35 and No. 4 via Samut Sakhon, Phetchaburi, Prachuap Khiri Khan and Chumphon.

By Bus
There are public buses (non air-conditioned) leave daily from the Southern Bus Terminal on Pinklao- Nakhon Chaisi Road, Tel. 4345557-8. For air-conditioned coaches, there are 2 companies run on alternating days: Chok Anan Tour, Tel. 4357429, 4355027-9 and Mit Tour, Tel. 2816939, 4355020.
By Rail
Ranong itself is not accessible by train. However, visitors who prefer travelling by train can go as far as Chumphon and take a bus for another 119 kilo- meters to Ranong.
By Air
Take a domestic flight of Thai Airways Inter- national Ltd. to Surat Thani (Please call 2800070, 2800080 for further information) and change for a taxi to Ranong. Travelling service of Jansom Thara Hotel, Ranong, is also available. The distance between Surat Thani and Ranong is 223 kilometers .
